Accents: Phone Sex Selling Point Or Detractor?

There’s always lot of discussion around the subject of accents, especially around non-native US accents. Many will advise you not to mention it, but I think that’s ridiculous. Obviously the caller is going to hear it. Even if you have had voice training, it’s difficult to maintain such a different vocal pattern when your supposed to be relaxing into such intimate moments — and what if the call is three hours long?

Those who advise you not to disclose an accent primarily say this based on the reasoning that many callers complain about not being able to understand the phone sex operator due to a thick accent. Usually this is also a PSO who is not really fluent in English — something that one regularly deals with on 011 and 10XXX numbers.

If you cannot honestly converse in English, then you probably shouldn’t be working as a PSO in the US or other primarily English speaking country without marketing yourself as speaking in your “accented” or native language; both you and your callers will be extremely frustrated. Right or wrong, US callers have a low tolerance level — especially when they feel their communication is thwarted with, “What?” and “Come again?” over and over again.

However an accent doesn’t necessarily mean a person isn’t fluent and easy to communicate with in English. In fact, we Americans find foreign accents down-right sexy!

Once again I recommend not only disclosing but promoting yourself based on your difference. It’s part of your niche! Promote your phone sex business with your accent and let it help callers searching to get their kink on with an exotic babe.
