The Key To Attracting More Male Callers May Lie In Dating Study Info

A recent study, An Experimental Study of Men’s and Women’s Personal Ads, took a look at what characteristics women and men appear to be looking for in their partners by placing fake personal ads online and studying the results. The complete study must be paid for to be read, but Justin Lehmiller, PhD, breaks it down in an article for Playboy:

Specifically, four ads were posted under the women seeking men (WSM) section, while another four ads were posted under the men seeking women (MSW) section. Each ad ran for two weeks. The ads were very similar in nature, but each emphasized a different personal trait.

The WSM ads varied in terms of whether the woman described was slim and attractive, sensual and passionate, or successful and ambitious. The fourth ad was generic and didn’t mention any of these characteristics.

Since the phone sex industry primarily banks on male callers and clients, I am going to focus on what the research revealed about dating ads placed by (fake) women and the (presumably heterosexual) men who were interested in meeting women.

As expected, the women presented as thin and attractive received significantly more replies from male suitors than women who were described any other way.

Women presented as successful and ambitious received the second highest number of replies. Their response rate was significantly higher than the sensual/passionate and generic ads, which were essentially tied for last. Thus, both good looks and success increased the likelihood of a woman getting a reply.

While Lehmiller — and Gracie Passette, where I first found this study — both point to the biological or evolutionary drives behind the to-be-expected “men seeking beautiful women” phenomenon, you can also see how changing cultural norms (or perhaps a defense against “gold diggers”?) indicate a strong positive reaction to successful women as well.

If you’re wondering why I’m mentioning this, it should be fairly obvious: This is about how female phone sex operators can better market themselves to appeal to male callers.

Generally speaking, presumably heterosexual men are attracted to women culturally defined as “attractive.” Your specialty niche market mileage may vary, of course.

But perhaps what is most remarkable is that the dating ads paced in this study were text-only, with no photosThis offers several splendid insights for the marketing savvy PSO.

#1: Men were responding to the words used in the description, not to any photographs provided or images used. This is not to say that had photos been included they would have been overshadowed by the text; I’m sure the photos would speak louder than words. But clearly words do count. And therefore you should be sure to include them in your profiles and listings.

#2: “Success” is sexy. This, according to the study, is true for both men and women. Whether it is high ratings, positive feedback, blog awards, etc., showing off your successful side can only help you in your appeal to phone sex callers.

#3: People have more than one trait. While this study focused on three individual specific traits in order to get clear results, note that the fourth ad was called “generic.” Not only did the generic ad not mention the other three traits, but it was the worst performing ad. So while it was noted that combining beauty with success may have been extremely powerful, you should also beware that trying to be “all things” may leave your ad or services looking generic. Yes, you have more than one facet to set to sparking; but don’t  focus on so many that none stand out.

#4:  Men were responding to how (supposedly) real women were describing themselves. Which leads to something and not touched upon by either Lehmiller, Passette, or the study itself. Were the men responding merely to “attractive physical descriptions” alone, or did the confidence displayed by a woman describing herself as attractive play some role in it? Confidence is sexy! So no matter how you describe yourself, how many facets you display, be confident in describing them and yourself!

Collaborative Phone Sex Operator Opportunties

Back To School Phone Sex Tips

The summertime slowdown is about to end. In part, as the Peck & Call Girls said, because back to school means more free time for dads.

And it’s not just dads either.

In other words, the temperatures are about to lower — but the phone sex business is about to heat up again!

+ Look over your profile and listing pages with a critical eye. Inspect them for typos, misspellings, and the like, as well as review them in a general sense. Do they need refreshing in terms of wording, photos, or other graphics? Have you changed your services in any way which is not reflected in your listings? With the increased traffic, you want to make sure those extra views convert.

+ Review the terms of service at the platform site(s) you are using; make sure you are in compliance.

+ Now is likely one of those times you may be about to change your work hours. Whether or not you’ve posted your schedule (or otherwise mentioned your general availability), this is the time to note and announce any upcoming changes. Do so via your profile and listing pages, your blog/website, social media, and via direct contact with clients (newsletters, mass mailings, messages, and email).

+ Speaking of schedules, don’t forget to include time for yourself. Building time into your schedule for exercise, plenty of sleep, and other self-care time is needed not only for your health and to manage stress but to provide great customer service.

+ Assess the status and quality of your tech gear. This includes standard gear such as phones and headsets; PC, laptop, tablet; as well as related batteries and chargers, etc.. If you produce your own photo content, your cameras too. Now is absolutely the time to do this as Amazon, eBay, and many other retail outlets have great back to school savings on such things!

+ Similarly, asses the status and quality of your webhost, audio software, apps, etc. Also, if you haven’t yet invested in a domain name, do it now so the search engines etc. can catch up.

+ Increase your promotion activities so that you’ll be right in front of all those hungry, searching eyes. This includes, but is not limited to, blog posts, Tweets, etc. (Tip: If you have successful or great posts on Tumblr or Twitter, repost them for the more exposure in front of the increasing audience.)

+ Work ahead by creating blog posts, Tweets, etc.. Save or schedule them for posting so that when you are busy with callers, your blog and social media accounts remain active and fresh. Don’t forget to include labeling your photos and making graphics!

+ Research advertising options and make a list of your best bets so that, when you have the money to reinvest but are short on time, you quickly know where to go.

Also, while the Fall season ushers in a busy business time, it quickly leads to the holiday season which is even busier (at least in terms of personal and family time). As with the above tip regarding working ahead in blogging, you may also wish to safely prepare Pay to View items, Goodies, store products, etc. That way, you’ll have hot and fresh offerings at the ready.

Prepare now by checking to see if you have enough content; if not, take or procure the photos, create the audio and text files, etc. If you don’t have the money to purchase content right now, research and window shop for what you need so that, as with advertising, you are all set when you do have the funds.

More PSOs Should Be Like Santa

Work Your Phone Sex Blog Like A Vintage Stag Film

You’ve probably heard about the old stag films, maybe even seen a few. But do you understand their magic?

Naughty and even nudie films have a long history, dating back to the early 1900s. While all these forerunners of today’s porn are sometimes referred to as “blue” movies, stag films held a specific audience and purpose — and they most definitely should not be confused with any old vintage porn.

Stag films were short, one or two reel films, which were sexually explicit — and therefore illegal. In order to avoid both censors and the law, these films were shown on an underground circuit which consisted primarily of “officially decried but socially tolerated”* semi-public male spaces. These were “members’ only” gatherings, where the members (no pun intended!) knew one another. Think fraternities, men’s clubs, and other men-only parties (often called “men’s smoking parties” or “smokers”).

(There’s a reason bachelor parties are also called “stag parties”!)

Because these were groups of heterosexual males (or closeted males passing as heteronormative), married or not, the literal focus of the films was most definitely the female form and male arousal. However, this was not to set off circle jerks. Instead, stag films were designed to be a form of homosocial entertainment designed to enhance male bonds of friendship and general “manliness”. In Latex and Lingerie: Shopping for Pleasure at Ann Summers Parties, Merl Storr provides a concise definition of gender scholar Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick‘s working definition of homosocial bonding:

Sedgwick defines male homosociality as a form of male bonding with a characteristic triangular structure. In this triangle, men have intense but nonsexual bonds with other men, and women serve as the conduits through which those bonds are expressed.

[If you’re confused how this actually works, just recall groups of men making catcalls at women, lewd jokes at the expense of women, or otherwise doing what Linda Williams accurately calls “verbal ejaculation”.]

After WWII, when film projectors for home use became affordable and popular, the traveling underground stag film circuit began its slow death. Now, individuals were able to purchase 8mm versions of stag films. But the viewing space & social construct of quasi-public, quasi-private places (i.e. the “men will be men” events held in fraternity house, Elk’s Lodge, or even bar room basements located in the atomic family home) didn’t change. The specific purpose, & therefore the craft of, this specific genre of adult films remained the same.

What makes the stag films such a specific film genre?  As Linda Williams states in Hard Core: Power, Pleasure, and the “Frenzy of the Visible”, stag films were designed “to arouse and then precisely not to satisfy”. In fact, a handful of early examples withstanding, stag films didn’t end with what we now view as the requisite cum-shot. Rather, they built up to a penetration shot — leaving more, including his dick, to come.

While showing complete nudity & real, not simulated, coitus (thus being actual hardcore productions and not the “pure” softcore pinup stuff we normally think of as tease), these films didn’t end with the usual porno bang. Instead, stag films left the viewers wanting — craving — a bang of their own.

This is why so many brothels played stag films for their waiting clients. Such films served as great tease, an extended sort of foreplay, keeping the men waiting for sexual services and companionship in the mood — and still in need of the sex services. The power of these films lasted even past the demise of fraternal organizations & men’s clubs in the 1960s. Then stag films moved into the coin-operated arcades & peepshow booths located in adult bookstores & sex toy shops. The income they raised went beyond the pay-as-you-go insertion of coins, fanning the flames of sexual desire, prompting additional need-driven purchases in the stores.

Now that you understand the magic of the old stag films, do you see how they compare to your blog posts or other website content?

Your website and/or blog is comparable to the semi-public space of a frat-house or Elk’s club and your content needs to get the guys going, make them want your services — but not let them “rub out” their need of you either.

It’s easy to say that a phone sex operator (or other sex worker) should “tease” their website visitors into paying for their services; but sometimes the word “tease” is translated as meaning your content “shouldn’t be so graphic”. But as stag films show us, that’s not necessarily the case. You can be as explicit and pornographic as you want. Oh For Gawd’s Sake, Learn How To Properly Blog

Not to be all bitchy-mcbitch-pants or beat a dead horse or anything, but…

I don’t think NiteFlirt (or whoever is in charge of their blog) really understands what they are doing with a blog &/or social media. I mean it is a chronic problem. And it’s starting to work my last nerve.

This latest example includes a blog post about “news”. It’s no longer news. The very video they use dates to 2012; it’s over two years old. But I would be inclined to forgive them the creative definition of “news” to create content if:

A) Their whole blog post wasn’t an obvious attempt to fetch search engine bots to phone sex listings rather than to entertain or enlighten readers/members — actual humans — with said “news”,

and

B) If they didn’t, once again, feed the search engine spider bots inaccurate information about NF.

[W]e know that no technology could ever replace the amazing pleasure of a human touch. What we offer can’t be found in any Chinese hospitals.

Why would you even suggest that phone sex provides the “pleasure of human touch”?! Phone sex is sex work, but it does most definitely does not involve touching the client. (Even alluding to a Flirt touching a client sounds like “arrange a meeting in the real world” — which is so very-very against NF’s own terms of service.)

Is the “pleasure of human touch” supposed to be in reference to the client’s own hand? Then say so! “Masturbation” would be a far wiser word to use in terms of humans searching online.

And that last line? What does that mean? That there’s no human touch at Chinese hospitals? That there’s no masturbation at Chinese hospitals? That there’s no phone sex allowed at Chinese hospitals? …Plus such phrasing and the use of a negative “can’t” evokes feelings of comparisons. Surely NF knows that it can’t compete with hospitals of any sort, right? Why end your post on such an ambiguous and, frankly, odd note?

Lessons: Write for people, not spiders. And, for pity’s sake, if you are going to try to feed spiders, feed them the correct information. Sheesh.

For the love of gawd, NF, hire me or someone else to educate you so that you can promote your phone sex business right.

Magic Numbers?

TalkToMe’s Unfair & Unethical Attack On NiteFlirt

Clearly trying to capitalize on NiteFlirt’s latest policy announcement , TalkToMe (TTM) sent an email alert of their own members, or at least to their PSOs (called “Talkers”), entitled Your Voice, Your Choice!

Talkers, no one has the right to tell you how to make your money — not your phone company, not your customers and certainly not your billing & marketing service.

Adult Entertainment websites banning their “Flirts” from listing multiple links on their own personal websites and social media is UNFAIR and UNETHICAL. If these companies truly wanted their agents to succeed, they’d recognize every Talent’s right to promote themselves as they wish, and support their freedom to engage fully in social media. Companies who try to prohibit things like this are afraid of competition. We are not.  We believe in our site and our service.

It’s fair — and often a great idea — to capitalize on a competitor’s weakness or exploit a competitor’s perceived weakness. But if you travel that path, you also expose yourself to risks. In other  words, you’d better do it right. And TTM did it wrong. All wrong.

Aside from reading more like a sales pitch to join TTM rather than an update for members, there are even bigger problems with this message. Let’s deal with the misleading and downright false information first.

False Statements TTM Makes About NF:

1) NiteFlirt is not “banning their ‘Flirts’ from listing multiple links on their own personal websites and social media.” Their policy is about links from NF’s site, phone sex operator profiles and listings, to personal websites and social media accounts. Lots of websites, phone sex platform sites included, have similar policies to prevent traffic leaks (as well as passing along SEO & PR juice) to competing companies.

2) TTM’s claim that NF is prohibiting PSOs from “listing with multiple companies” and “promoting more than one listing” is equally untrue. Even if NF wished for that, they have no control over such things. But they can, and are, taking steps to protect their members from leaving NF and taking their money to other companies.

3) NF is not trying to “tell you what you can & can’t put on your personal social media”; NF is merely stating their terms for what can & cannot be linked from their own site.

But there are even more problems with TTM’s email.

Along with misrepresenting their competitor’s weakness, TTM is also misrepresenting their own policies.

Facts About TTM’s Policies:

1) According to TTM’s own Talker Policy, “You will not use any banner advertisements or “pop up” windows or create or include links to sites which involve e-commerce, marketing, solicitation or sale of any items of any kind, whether related to or outside the scope of your Talker listing.”

How many PSO websites, social profiles, blogs, etc., refrain from solicitation or marketing? Isn’t that rather the overall point of them? And even if you employ a very soft touch form of marketing, how many of us review and link to sex toys that are for sale — that’s ecommerce. And so are listings for competing sites and services.

Doesn’t it then seem rather appalling for TTM to say that “no one has the right to tell you how to make your money”?.

2) TTM’s policy also states that Talkers “will not place any link or other contact information on our Site to facilitate communication outside of our Site.”

Any decent website or blog has a means of contact — be it a form or an email address listed. And any social media account has private chats, direct messaging, and the like. That’s the whole point of social media: To. Be. Social. To communicate. So, according to TTM’s own policy, Talkers may not link to their own social media accounts and personal websites.

So much for TTM recognizing “every Talent’s right to promote themselves as they wish, and support their freedom to engage fully in social media,” right?

3) The above rules, and many others, are all placed beneath TTM’s primary policy for their PSOs:

Without limiting any other remedies TalkToMe.com may have, TalkToMe.com may, in its sole discretion for any reason or for no reason and without notice, immediately modify or terminate your access to, membership in and use of the Site especially if you have violated any of the following requirements each of which you must agree to as a condition to your use of our Site

That means that breaking any of the other linking rules means you are in danger of being tossed or banned from the TTM platform.

Since TTM opted to not only use the words “unfair” and “unethical” but to type them in all caps too, it seems only fair and ethical to call them on their flagrant misrepresentation of NF’s policies and the denial of their own prohibiting policies.

And I have to ask them, “Just who is prohibiting things out of fear of the competition now?”

 

Is NiteFlirt Really Playing Fair With Their Latest Play Fair Linking Policy?

In the August edition of NiteFlirt‘s FlirtBuzz newsletter, there was an update regarding Play Fair, the phone sex platform’s department which enforces the NiteFlirt Member Agreement and NiteFlirt’s policies. Along with encouraging Flirts (& other members) to bully and report their fellow phone sex operators (as if more of that was actually needed!), the important part here really is about the linking policy.

Competitive Services

Your listings cannot contain links that connect to competing services in any way, even if the competing service is two clicks away (i.e., the page you link to cannot link to a page that links to a competitor). This includes your personal websites, your twitter pages, or any other page you are linked to, including “friends of” pages on your own personal websites. Watch out for this as it’s the major reason Play Fair will end up pulling listings down. Play Fair never wants to pull your listings for any reason at all. Please help them in staying vigilant and hopefully we can achieve this together!

I’ll repeat it in bold: Your listings cannot contain links that connect to competing services in any way, even if the competing service is two clicks away (i.e., the page you link to cannot link to a page that links to a competitor). And, per NF’s polcies, “NiteFlirt considers the following to be competitive services: phone calls, Webcam, tributes/donations, recorded content, and content exchanged via email, such as photos.” Though at times it has been unclear if this competition is striclty alternatives for a specific Flirt (i.e. Flirt SuzieQ has linkage at her site to SuzieQ at NF and MPS) or if it is simply any other service period (i.e. Flirt SuzieQ has links to MPS girl MonicaMoans). Play Fair has taken action in both directions, which adds to the confusion.

In any case, this newsletter posting is quite different from the policies written on the NF site itself.

For example, the NF Social Media Policy states:

For Twitter, this means that you don’t mention or link to any pages that mention our competition in your Twitter bio.

Here “our competition” would seem to mean any links to any phone sex, webcam, or other site that competes with NF in any way. And notice how the update in the August newsletter doesn’t state “bio” only, leaving that to mean anything on the Twitter page or feed.

And here’s the current (if even more meandering and ambiguous) NF policy about personal websites — which the new “two clicks” policy seems to easily refute (bold added by me for emphasis & easy comparison):

We do our best to allow Members freedom to run their own business while also enforcing our policies. We do not want to restrict Flirts, especially those with an established business outside of NiteFlirt, by not permitting them to do link exchanges and such on their personal sites. Therefore, we do not monitor banner ads on personal sites. However, banner ads to direct competitors will not be permitted. A site that only points to banners and does not provide any additional information about the Flirt will not be permitted. But as long as the banners are simply that – banners – and not other ways to contact or pay that Flirt, we allow it. Personal Websites is perhaps the most subjective policy we have and the hardest thing to regulate. We want you to point to your site to entice callers to call you, but we can’t allow Flirts to send our customers to their sites so they can be paid outside of NiteFlirt. It is true that a customer could come to NiteFlirt and find themselves on another site all together. This is true about most sites in the Adult Industry. If we were to prevent banner ads on personal sites, it would deter people from posting their personal sites which we feel often entices customers to place calls.

While NF talks about how important it is for Flirts to gain the attention of potential callers, and stay connected with current clients, it’s pretty clear to me with this new policy that any links to any competition are perceived as a threat and reason enough for Play Fair to pull phone sex listings. With this “two clicks away” policy, even a Flirt replying to a client’s tweet could be costly — because who knows who else that client may tweet with or link to?

It really does beg the question, “Do they understand how social media and even the Internet itself works?”

The amount of policing involved in such a policy — as in policing one’s own listings and sites, not policing other PSOs — is so absurdly huge that in doing so who would have the time to be on the telephone serving callers?

NF itself skirts dangerously close to breaking their own rules. For example, the official NF blog recently covered the AutoBlow2 male masturbator and in doing so, linked to SuperCompressor‘s review. (A better review here, in case you are interested.)

While the SuperCompressor site does bandy the phrase “phone sex” about, they don’t seem to outright link to any phone sex services — even on the “vice” pages. I don’t suppose they accept any advertising from PSOs either; they only seem to go as far into “sex” with their advertising as “dating”. But, I don’t know, wouldn’t the Mixxxer app be a competing service? (I bet if you linked to it, it would be!) Anyway, SuperCompressor reviewed that app too.

Both SuperCompressor articles were written by Jeremy Glass — whose Twitter account is linked to from the articles (that would be link number two, in this “two clicks away” policy). Glass has over 1000 followers on his rather active Twitter account. The activity includes Twitter conversations with porn star Allie Haze who has 117K followers she converses with. …Pretty sure somewhere in those numbers of adult folks, there’s a link going to a phone sex site or a porn star with a phone sex service.

This isn’t a one time thing with NF’s blog either. Another example: At the end of July, the NF blog dished vibrator history, linking to this article at BroBible. BroBible also talks about phone sex, but seems to steer clear of such advertising. (Not that I asked; their demo is males aged 18- to 34-year-old — which is so not where the real money is in the phone sex business.) All this only serves my point: Who wants to police all that? (Not me.) And just how many clicks away can you actually control anymore? (Answer: None.)

This “two clicks away” policy is why, those who have asked and read about this in the NF forums, the official NF Tumblr does not (and should not, in order to be compliant with it;s own policies) display (link to) the the other Tumblr blogs they follow or posts that they “heart” or “like” — because they do not want to have to police those links, where they are linking, etc. It would be a bitch.

Some argue that at least NF is allowing some links out. That, they say, is “more fair” than MPS and other phone sex platform sites which now have strict “no outbound links at all” policies. But is it really fair to allow phone sex operators to place outbound links when they have no power over the actions and links of who they are linking to — especially when NF has invited & encouraged users of the platform site to police and report one another?

Yes, yes, I get that the phone sex platform sites do not want independent PSOs leaking traffic to a competitor; and it is their right to put into place such policies and controls. But fundamentally, this NF policy is a “no outbound links” policy and the safest thing to do is to see it as such and behave accordingly. If only NF would state it thus, we’d have a lot less pulled listings and a lot less NF members policing of one another.
